A Barishal court on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a schoolgirl after abducting her at Bakerganj upazila in the district in 2018.
Barishal Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Rakibul Islam delivered the verdict on Wednesday, confirmed bench assistant Md Ajibar Rahman.
The court also fined the convict a total of Tk 130,000, in two different sections. In default, he will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
The convict, Md Harun Molla, 22, a resident of Kalidasia village and a farmer by profession, was presented in the court during the hearing.
According to the case statement, Harun abducted the seven-grade student of Charmaddi Girls High School on May 7, 2018 and violated the girl threatening her life.
Later, the victim's father filed a rape case with the concerned police station accusing six individuals.
On July 13, 2018, a chargesheet was submitted by the investigation officer SI Md Abdus Sabur.
During the long judicial proceedings, 7 witnesses provided testimony. Based on their statements and the evidence presented, the court found Harun guilty, confirmed the bench assistant Md Ajibar Rahman.
