A fish trader has been brutally murdered during a clash over a dispute relating to repayment of a loan in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district on Tuesday.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday around 8:00 PM in South Kalinagar area of the upazila.

The victim, Delwar Hossain, 40, was son of late Torab Ali and a resident of South Kalinagar area of the upazila.

According to police and locals, the conflict originated from a long-standing dispute between the victim's family and three brothers—Sheikh Farid, Alam Mia, and Robiul Islam—who resided in the Duduarkhal bridgepar area. The issue was related to the repayment of a loan from rikshaw-puller Tara Mia. On the night of the incident, Delwar's son had an argument with Tara Mia which escalated when the three brothers attacked with domestic weapons.

Delwar Hossain, who tried to intervene and stop the fight, was struck with a sharp weapon by the attackers. Several others were also injured in the attack.

Locals rushed the injured to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex but due to Delwar's critical condition, he was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries on the way and was declared dead upon arrival.

In connection with the murder, police arrested two suspects-- Khushi Begum, 35, wife of Sheikh Farid, and Moydan Ali, 48, a relative of the accused. They were sent to Sherpur District Court on Wednesday (January 8).

Confirming the incident, Nalitabari Police Station officer-in-charge Sohel Rana, stated that a murder case has been filed by the victim's brother, Bulu Mia, naming 20 people as suspects. Two of the accused have been arrested and sent to court. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
