Smuggled goods worth over Tk 2cr seized in Sherpur border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confiscated smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk 2.3 crore during a raid at Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur on Friday.

The operation was carried out early Friday morning, around 1:45 AM, by a BGB patrol team from the Ramchandrakura Camp at Panihata-Taltola area near the Indian border. The seizure included sarees, lehengas, sunglasses, and fancy gowns, smuggled in from India.  

However, smugglers fled the scene, abandoning the goods upon detecting the presence of the patrol.  

According to BGB sources, the raid was conducted based on intelligence. Items seized included 20,844 Indian sunglasses, 41 sarees, 10 large lehengas, four small lehengas, one fancy gown, and one fancy lehenga, collectively valued at approximately 2.3 crore taka.  

Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Sanbir Hasan Mazumdar, Commanding Officer of Mymensingh BGB, confirmed the operation, adding that the BGB remains committed to combating smuggling and other cross-border crimes to ensure security along the borders.
