Bumper lentil, mustard yield likely at Tanore

RAJSHAHI, Dec 29: The farmers are expecting bumper lentil and mustard production in different areas of Tanore upazila of the district this season.
They are getting interest in lentil and mustard cultivation gradually since they got bumper yield and fair market price of the produce in the previous year.
 Fields with full grown mustard plants have already worn an eye-catching look. Farmers as well as agriculture officers are expecting massive mustard and lentil production this season if the weather remains favourable.
According to the sources at Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tanore, the farmers have cultivated mustard and lentil around 13,525 hectors of land in the current years. The set-up target was only 11,345 hectors of land across the upazila.  Among these, there have 1,528 hectors of lentil land. The farmers have become more interested in mustard and lentil cultivation in this year, having desired production and fair prices in the previous year, the sources added.
 Talking to The Daily Observer, Shahin, a mustard grower of Mundumala area of the upazila, said that he cultivated two bighas of land in this season; the cultivation cost is Tk 2,500 to 3,000 per bigha of land.
He cultivated one bigha of land in the previous year but having fair price with bumper production, he cultivated two bighas of land this year; he got four maunds of mustard last year. This year, the growth of mustard plants is very well. He is expecting a bumper mustard production this year, he added. 
 Motiur Rahman, a lentil grower of Chinshow village of the upazila, said that he cultivated two bighas of land in this season. The growth of tendon lentil is very well. If any natural disaster would not occur, he would achieve a bumper lentil production in this season, he hopped. 
 Shoriful Islam, agriculture officer of Tanore upazila, said that having more benefited with little cultivation cost, the farmers here have become more interested in mustard and lentil cultivation across the upazila. They have crossed the cultivation target this season.
