A local Awami League (AL) leader was attacked and stabbed by miscreants in Rajshahi's Charghat upazila on Thursday night.
The victim is identified as Tozammel Haque, 42, son of late Azahar Ali Pramanik of Pirojpur village and the general secretary of Ward No. 9 of Charghat municipality's Awami League unit.
According to police and local accounts, Tozammel was ambushed in the Echerer Battala area while returning home on his motorcycle from Kakramari market. The attack stemmed from a dispute earlier in the day involving two individuals, Rustam Ali and Mamunur Rashid, both from Pirojpur village. During an altercation at Kakramari market, Tozammel Haque supported Rustam Ali, escalating tensions between the parties. That evening, the assailants reportedly blocked his path and assaulted him with sharp weapons before fleeing.
Locals rushed the injured leader to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where doctors treated multiple injuries to his legs, left hand, chest, and stomach.
Shankar K Biswas, a hospital spokesperson, confirmed that due to the severity of his condition, Tozammel was transferred to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka on Friday morning.
Charghat Model Police Station officer-in-charge Afzal Hossain stated that no formal complaint had been filed as of Friday afternoon. "Once a complaint is lodged, an investigation will begin to identify and apprehend those responsible," he assured.
