Polythene factory owner jailed in B'baria

A mobile court has sentenced a factory owner to one month of imprisonment and fined him Tk 1 lakh for producing banned polythene at Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria district on Saturday. 

The raid was conducted around 3:15 PM on Saturday in Baishamura village under Shahbazpur union of the upazila.

The convicted factory owner, Kamal Mia, hails from Bijoynagar upazila of the district.

Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and executive magistrate, Md. Mosharraf Hossain, who presided over the mobile court, stated, "We conducted the raid upon receiving information about polythene production. The factory owner was detained and sentenced to one month of imprisonment along with a fine of Tk 1 lakh. In default of payment, he will face an additional 15 days of imprisonment."

The court also seized materials used in the production of the banned polythene, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
