Authorities have seized a significant quantity of illegal nets used for destroying aquatic resources at Lalmohan upazila in Bhola district.
The operation, initiated by the Upazila Fisheries Office, took place from Saturday midnight to early Sunday morning in various locations along the Tetulia River.
The seized 'behundi' nets are estimated to be worth approximately Tk 5 lakh.
During the operation, 10 kilograms of fish, including juvenile hilsa (jatka) and other species, were also confiscated. Later, the illegal nets were destroyed by burning, and the seized fishes were distributed among the underprivileged.
The operation was led by Lalmohohan Upazila Fisheries Officer Ali Ahmed Akhand, with the assistance of Marine Fisheries Officer Md. Saidur Rahman, field assistant Md. Nesar Uddin, Saiful Islam Sohag, office assistant Khokon Chandra Das, and local police personnel.
