Husband surrenders after killing wife in Moulvibazar

A man allegedly killed his wife by strangling her with a scarf following a heated argument over suspicions of an extramarital affair at Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar district in Sunday. 

The incident took place on Sunday morning in Alepur village of the same upazila.  

The deceased was identfiied as Monowara Begum, 30, and the accused is Azad Box, 62, of South Baligaon village in Kamalganj Sadar union.

According to police and local sources, Azad married Monowara in 2023 after a romantic relationship. Monowara lived at her parental home in Alepur village. Recently, Azad became suspicious of her involvement with another man which led to frequent altercations between them.  
On Sunday morning, Azad visited Monowara's home in Alepur and during an argument, strangled her with a scarf inside the house. After committing the crime, he went to Kamalganj Police Station and turned himself in.  

Kamalganj Police Station officer-in-charge Syed Iftekhar Hossain confirmed the incident. "The accused has been arrested after surrendering at the station. The body has been recovered and will be sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Legal actions will be taken following the investigation," the OC said.
