Eight members of Khulna Bar Association were sent to jail on Monday in a case filed during the July uprising.

Khulna Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sharif Hossain Haidar passed the order after rejecting their bail petitions.
Those sent to jail are include Al-Amin Ukil, a former Jubo League leader; Tamal Kanti Ghosh, a Swechasebak League leader; Abdul Kuddus; Sohel Pervez; Sumonto Kumar Biswas; Sheikh Shamim Ahmed, a former Chhatra League leader; Saidur Rahman Tutul; and Mehedi Hasan.

The case was filed by Emam Hossain, a member of the Khulna Bar Association, against 28 individuals, including Saiful Islam, former president of the Khulna Bar Association and the current president of the Sadar upazila unit Awami League (AL). The allegations pertain to their alleged involvement in attacking students during the student-led protests in Khulna.

According to Advocate Nurul Hasan, counsel for the plaintiff, 23 of the accused, including Saiful Islam, secured six weeks of bail from the High Court. However, prominent figures such as AL leaders Saiful Islam, Tarik Mahmud, Sujit Kumar Odhikari, Anisur Rahman Paplu, and Advocate Jesmin Parvin Joly have gone into hiding.

The case has drawn significant attention, reflecting tensions between political affiliations and public outrage over the alleged assault on students. The judicial process is expected to continue as investigations unfold.
