Seven suspected members of an inter-district robbery gang were arrested by police in connection with the robbery and rape of a housewife in Mohadevpur upazila in Naogaon.
The suspects, who were found in possession of sharp weapons, were apprehended after a raid in several areas of the district.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Safiful Sarowar shared the details of the arrests in a press conference held on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals were identified as Shariful Islam Pacha, 29, Tarek Hossain, 26, Solaiman Ali, 38, Sagar Hossain, 19, Rubel Sardar, 28, Ripon Ali, 30, and a second Sagar Hossain, 19, all of whom hail from different upazilas within the district.
The incident occurred on the night of December 29, when the gang stormed a house in Khajur village. During the robbery, the accused abducted the housewife and took her to an open field, where they raped her in turns. Upon receiving information, the police rescued the victim at the scene, and a case was subsequently filed against unidentified individuals.
Using technology, police were able to track down and arrest the suspects on Monday night. Three of the arrestees have confessed to their involvement in both the robbery and the rape, while the remaining suspects will be interrogated during police remand.
