Law enforcement authorities have arrested three individuals, including a woman, in connection with the murder of a former Khulna City Corporation (KCC) councillor.
Golam Rabbani Tipu, a Swechasebak League leader and former KCC councillor, was fatally shot in Cox's Bazar on January 9.
The arrests were made in Moulvibazar, according to police reports.
The suspects are Ritu, 24, Sheikh Shahriar Islam Pappu, 27, and Golam Rasul, 25, all residents of Khulna.
The alleged mastermind, Pappu, is the nephew of Huji Shahidul, a leader of Purba Banglar Communist Party, who was killed in 2013.
Police revealed that Pappu orchestrated the murder as an act of revenge for his uncle's death, in which Tipu was reportedly implicated.
Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police Rahmat Ullah explained that the murder was also influenced by local power struggles. The suspects carried out the crime in Cox's Bazar, believing it to be an ideal location.
Police have recovered the weapon used in the murder, and efforts to uncover additional details are ongoing. A case has been filed at Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station by Tipu's brother-in-law, Md. Yunus Ali Sheikh, against unidentified individuals.
