A young man was allegedly beaten to death by his cousin following a dispute over gambling money at Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night in Kheora village under Mehari union.
The victim, Israfil Mia, 18, was son of Mintu Mia, while the accused, Babu Mia, 30, is son of Majnu Mia from the same area.
According to Israfil's brother, Ismail Mia, the two cousins had organized a ring-toss gambling game at a local fair earlier in the evening. After losing 1,000 Tk, Babu demanded half the amount—500 BDT—from Israfil. When Israfil suggested deducting it from a prior debt, an argument ensued, leading to a physical altercation. Eventually, Babu became enraged and attacked Israfil with a blunt weapon, striking him on the head.
Neighbors rushed to his aid after hearing the commotion and taken to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Israfil's grieving mother, Ayesha Begum, expressed her anguish, saying, "They took away one of my four sons. I demand justice and the execution of my son's killer."
Kasba Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Kader stated that the body has been sent for autopsy.
A case has been filed by the victim's brother, and police are investigating the matter.
