A minor child drowned in a pond at Dashmina upazila in Patuakhali district on Friday morning.
The incident took place at South Adampur village under Bahrampur union of the upazila.
The deceased, Tarifa, 2, was daughter of Mahbub Mridha and a resident of the same village.
According to family sources, Tarifa's mother, Maksuda Begum, had gone to fetch drinking water from a nearby tube well. During this time, the toddler, who had recently learned to walk, wandered out of the house unnoticed. Upon returning, Maksuda realized her daughter was missing and began searching frantically, calling for help. Family members and neighbors joined the search and eventually found the child floating in the pond adjacent to their home.
Tarifa was immediately rushed to Dashmina Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor, Dr Rahul Bin Halim, pronounced her dead.
