At least 30 people were injured in a violent clash between two factions of the BNP at Sreepur upazila in Magura district on Friday morning.

The conflict, driven by a dispute between the factions over power practice, also led to the widespread damage and looting of approximately 20 homes at Kodla village under Amalsar union of Sreepur upazila.

The situation was eventually brought under control by police forces.

The altercation occurred at around 8:30 AM in Kodla Westpara, where tensions had been escalating for some time. Local sources suggest that the feud between the two BNP factions, led by Yakub Ali Biswas and Turaf Ali, had been simmering since the fall of Awami League government, with both groups vying for control in the village.

The clash erupted when Mohammad Kamrul Islam, a supporter of Yakub Ali Biswas, went to deliver food to a Imam of the local mosque. He was confronted by Rabiul Islam, a supporter of Turaf Ali, which quickly escalated into a verbal altercation. Kamrul Islam was attacked and fled, prompting both groups to engage in a violent clash using traditional weapons.

Sreepur Police Station officer-in-charge, Rezaul Idris Ali Chowdhury, confirmed that 20 of the injured were receiving treatment at local hospitals.

Authorities have deployed additional forces to ensure peace in the area. Two cases have been filed in connection with the incident.
