Seized drugs worth Tk 7.42 cr destroyed in Habiganj

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) destroyed the seized drugs valued at Tk 7.42 crore in Habiganj district on Saturdayday.

BGB-55 Habiganj Battalion camp conducted the operation in presence of officials from various departments, marking a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling in the region. 

The destroyed contraband included 24,756 bottles of foreign liquor, 36 liters of local liquor, 3,448 bottles of phensidyl, 9,755 kilograms of hemp, 2,881 pieces yaba pills, 1,025 cans of beer, 898 bottles of cough syrup and 20 packets of bidis.  

Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanzilur Rahman, Commander of BGB-55 Battalion, stated that the drugs were confiscated along the borders of Habiganj and Moulvibazar districts between July and December 2024. Following legal procedures, the items were disposed of to prevent their reentry into the illegal market.  

Senior Judicial Magistrate Fakhrul Islam, Executive Magistrate Sushmita Saha, Assistant Director of Narcotics Control Department Sajidur Rahman and Assistant Director of Environment Department Haripada Das were present to oversee the destruction process.
