Patuakhali thermal power plant begins electricity generation

The 1320 Megawatt (MW) thermal power plant in Patuakhali, has started electricity generation on a trial basis early Sunday.  

At around 12:30 AM on Sunday, the plant's first unit, with a capacity of 660 MW, began generating electricity. By Sunday, the plant had supplied 110 MW of electricity to the national grid. 

Overcoming numerous challenges, the staff at the power plant expressed their excitement at achieving this milestone.  

Ashraf Uddin, the chief engineer overseeing the 1320 MW thermal power plant, confirmed the development. He stated that the plant aims to gradually supply the full 660 MW from the first unit to the national grid. Work on the second unit, also with a capacity of 660 MW, is progressing rapidly, with plans to commence electricity generation by March this year.
