5 cotton warehouses gutted in Bagerhat

Five cotton warehouses were burned to ashes in a fire that broke out at Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat district on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at Lokhpur area in the upazila around 5:00 PM.

Khulna Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Abu Bakr Zaman confirmed the matter, adding that five cotton warehouses of two factories-- M/S Niyamul Enterprise and Cotton Refining Mills and Emon Enterprise and Cotton Mills-- were gutted in the fire.

According to the owner of Niyamul Enterprise, Md Rafiqul Islam, the fire originated from an electric malfunction and spread to the adjacent area soon. The workers tried the douse the blaze but failed and informed fire service department.

On information, a four firefighting units rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire after four and half an hours of efforts. 

The fire service official further stated that the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit which resulted in damaging goods worth around Tk 2 crore.
