Attack on Saif: Father claims CCTV footage does not match his arrested son

Mumbai police have arrested Shariful Islam Sajjad in connection with an attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. 

However, Shariful�s father, Ruhul Amin Fakir, has claimed that the person seen in the CCTV footage is not his son, despite police apprehending his son as the prime suspect.  

Speaking to a media, Ruhul Amin Fakir expressed disbelief, stating, "I cannot comprehend how my son could be involved in such an incident. The person seen in the CCTV footage does not resemble my son. The facial structure and hairstyle of the individual in the footage are different. My son used to comb his hair backward and never let his hair cover his forehead."  

Ruhul Amin further disclosed that Shariful had left their home in Jhalakati, Bangladesh, in March or April of last year. He said, "Later, I came to know he was in India but I had no idea where exactly. He used to send us 10,000 to 12,000 taka every month by the 12th of each month. The last time I spoke to him was last Friday night when he called to ask how I was doing. After that, I haven't heard from him."  

Reports in Indian media suggest that Shariful was a wrestler who had competed at the district and national levels in Bangladesh. Ruhul Amin dismissed these claims, saying, "There is hardly any tradition of wrestling in Jhalakati. He may have engaged in casual wrestling once or twice during Eid celebrations. My son used to play football and had completed his SSC education."  

He explained that Shariful previously worked as a motorbike taxi driver, for which Ruhul Amin had purchased him a motorcycle.  

Ruhul Amin expressed frustration and concern about the situation, saying, "Figures like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan are like prime ministers in India. I cannot imagine my son being involved in a case related to such a person. I have never heard of any complaints or allegations against my son before. I only want justice for him. We are helpless, with no one in India to support us. We are relying solely on Allah and praying for His guidance. Our financial condition is weak. I am considering approaching the Indian High Commission and Bangladesh�s Ministry of Foreign Affairs within a few days."  

Shariful�s lawyer, Sandeep Shekhane, argued that there is no evidence to prove that Shariful is a Bangladeshi citizen. While police claim that the accused arrived in Mumbai six months ago, the lawyer asserts that Shariful has been living in Mumbai with his family for the past seven years. He accused the police of shifting focus by raising questions about Shariful�s citizenship and claimed that nothing incriminating was recovered from him.  

The family continues to seek justice and has called for a fair trial in the matter.
