10 injured in clash between 2 BNP factions in Jashore

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at Chougachha upazila in Jashore district on Friday.

The incident occurred over a long standing dispute over establishing supremacy in a baor at Bero Gobindapur area in the upazila.

According to locals, the waterbody was under the control of Chougachha Union Parishad chairman and upazila Krishak League Abul Kashem. However, since the government failure, a dispute has stemmed with the shareholders of the reservoir.

On Friday, a shareholder Kalam Hossain led a group of 20-25 BNP members went to the baor for fishing. However, they were confronted by the supporters of one Salahuddin and Abdur Rahim, leading to a violent clash, leaving 10 individuals from both sides critically injured.

Being informed police rushed to the scene and compelled them to stop fighting. At that time, police also recovered a foreign-made pistol with one round of ammunition, along with two motorcycles from the site.

Among the injured, Kalam Hossain's condition is critical and has been referred to Jashore General Hospital. Of them, Seven others people received treatment at Chougachha Upazila Health Complex. 

Chougachha Upazila BNP president M A Salam stated that the incident was a personal matter involving some individuals and that the party would not support such unethical activities.

Chougachha Police Station officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident and stated that a clash had occurred between two BNP factions over fishing in the Baor. 

Two cases were filed with the police station following the incident, he added.
