Jamaat Ameer warns of nationwide protests for ATM Azharul Islam's release

Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has issued a warning that if the pary's leader ATM Azharul Islam is not released, a wave of nationwide protests will erupt. 

Speaking at a public gathering in Rangpur�s Mirbag Degree College grounds on Friday evening, he criticized the government and highlighted several national concerns.  

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman accused the ruling Awami League of fostering submissive relations with India, claiming that it compromised Bangladesh�s sovereignty. Referring to incidents like Felani's tragic death at the border and the Boraiyabari skirmish, he alleged that the Awami League government failed to ensure justice due to its deferential foreign policy. 

"Felani�s lifeless body hanging on the barbed wire fence remains a symbol of our sovereignty. However, the submissive government failed to secure justice for her," he stated.  

The Jamaat leader called for the immediate release of ATM Azharul Islam, describing him as a patriotic and honorable individual. "If justice is delayed, protests will erupt from Teknaf to Tetulia and Jaflong to Pathuria," he warned.  

Dr. Shafiqur also alleged that the Awami League�s mismanagement over the years had led to widespread corruption, inequality, and suffering for ordinary citizens. He blamed the government for economic exploitation, stating, "People work hard to cultivate this land, but their resources are looted by a few corrupt individuals."  

Highlighting the sacrifices of student activist Shahid Abu Sayeed during the 2024 protests, he declared him an icon of resistance and a symbol of the struggle for a just and democratic Bangladesh. "Our fight for a humane and corruption-free Bangladesh will continue until the dreams of our martyrs are realized," he asserted.  

Earlier in the day, Dr. Shafiqur addressed a large worker conference at Kurigram Government College, where he reiterated Jamaat�s commitment to justice for victims of extrajudicial killings and political violence. He also visited the family of Felani in Ramkhana, Kurigram, to pay his respects and pledge support for their ongoing fight for justice.  

The gatherings saw participation from central and regional Jamaat leaders, including Maulana Abdul Halim, Maulana Abdul Matin Farooqi, and Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal. Thousands of Jamaat activists and supporters attended the events, which are part of a series of rallies aimed at mobilizing public support and revitalizing the party's grassroots.  

Dr. Shafiqur vowed to continue Jamaat�s fight for a just, equitable, and democratic Bangladesh, emphasizing that their struggle transcends political boundaries and is rooted in the broader national interest.
