Housewife’s hanging body recovered in Rangpur

The deceased was Sharmin Khatun, 16, daughter of Awal Hossain of Chengmari Mandrain village under Gangachara sadar union of the upazila and wife of Shohag Mia, 26,of Joydebpur Madhyapara village under Gojoghonta union.

According to the case statement, Sharmin got married with Shohag  two years ago. Since the marriage, she was being tortured allegedly over dowry dispute by his husband. On Saturday night, she was found hanging in her in-law's house and later, recovered by police upon receiving the information.

Repeating the dowry dispute, Sharmin's family members claimed a case was filed against Shohag and his family in this regard. However, it was resolved further in an arbitration and the case had been withdrawn.

They also alleged that Sharmin was strangled to death by wrapping a scarf around her neck following the scuffle between the two families. They then, hanged the body to hide the killing.

Gongachora Police Station officer-in-charge Al Emran confirmed that the body was recovered and sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy.

"A case was filed by the victim's father and police took the accused to their custody. The legal steps are undergoing in this regard," he added.
