Severed body parts recovered from Barishal pond and lake

Severed human body parts were recovered from a pond and a lake at Kashipur union in Barishal city on Sunday morning, prompting police to initiate a thorough investigation into the incident.  

Airport Police Station officer-in-charge Zakir Hossain Shikder, confirmed the recovery of a severed hand and foot. However, ongoing searches have prevented authorities from providing further details at this time.  

According to locals, the gruesome discovery began when a child named Nirob spotted a severed foot floating near the edge of a pond in Hathem Meera lake, located in the northern Ishakathi area of the union. The child alerted nearby locals, who then informed the police.  

Shortly after, additional body parts were discovered wrapped in polythene in a nearby pond on the western side of the lake. Eyewitnesses reported finding remains including a severed hand, a skull, and internal organs. Police have since deployed a team, including divers from the fire service, to conduct an extensive search of both water bodies.  

Authorities have yet to disclose any theories or potential leads regarding how the body parts ended up in the water.  
Preliminary assessments suggest that the remains may belong to a child, but this has not been confirmed. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify any suspicious activity or potential suspects.
