Conflict and violence never bring peace: Addl DIG

Additional DIG (Operations) of Dhaka Range, Siddiqur Rahman, emphasized that conflict, violence, and the pursuit of dominance never bring peace and urged people to resolve disputes through mutual understanding and dialogue.  

Siddiqur Rahman shared his thoughts with journalists while visiting the site of a violent clash at Dighliakandi village in Bashgari union in Narsingdi's Raipura upazila on Sunday (January 26).  

DIG Siddiqur Rahman said, "Last night, we received secret information about the unrest, and since then, the village has been under intelligence surveillance. One person, identified as Al-Amin, was killed in the incident, and a few others were injured. The injured were initially taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital but were later referred to Dhaka as their condition remains critical."  

Addressing questions about a person seen wearing a bulletproof police vest during the conflict, he said, "We suspect the vest was stolen during last student protests, where miscreants looted weapons and other items from various police stations, including in Dhaka and Narsingdi. These stolen items are now being used for criminal activities. Law enforcement is taking immediate legal action and conducting raids to recover stolen weapons and equipment."  

The clash occurred on Sunday morning when supporters of the former chairman of Bashgari Union, Ashraful Haque, tried to re-enter the area after being absent for several days. Tensions had been escalating since Saturday night after news spread about their return. When Ashraful's supporters attempted to enter the village, they were confronted by the supporters of the current chairman, Ratul Hasan Zakir.  

The confrontation escalated into a violent clash involving firearms and traditional weapons, resulting in the death of Al-Amin, a 20-year-old resident of Dighliakandi village and the son of Johor Ali. At least ten others were injured, with some suffering gunshot wounds. The injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals in the district and Dhaka.  

The clash began around 8:00 AM and continued until 11:00 AM, leaving the area tense.  

The Additional DIG was accompanied by Narsingdi's Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md. Kolimulllah, Raipura Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Adil Mahmud, Bashgari Police Outpost in-charge, and around 100 police and DB personnel.  

Local law enforcement and intelligence teams are continuing their investigation and maintaining vigilance to prevent further violence in the area.
