Youth arrested over rape of school-girl in Patuakhali

The main accused in a case relating to rape of a schoolgirl at Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali district, was arrested in the capital on Sunday.

The accused, Jihad Shikder, 26, was hailed from Kabirkathi village under Kalishuri union of the upazila.

According to the case statement, Jihad forcibly picked up the victim, seventh-grade student, 13, in a car while she was on her way to school. Later, he took the schoolgirl to Barisal and then to Dhaka to keep her hostages at the house of a relative. During that time, Jihad allegedly raped the victim multiple times.

Being informed about the matter, victim�s father filed a case with Bauphal Police Station accusing eight people. Since then, Jihad went into hiding.

Following the case, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted drives and arrested Jihad from Uttara West Police Station area of the capital after six months of the incident.

Later, he was handed over to the police station concerned.

Confirming the matter, investigating officer of the case, Bauphal Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Mofizul Islam, said that the accused was sent to jail following a court order on Monday.
