Railway strike: Train passengers vandalise Rajshahi railway station

Several hundred passengers have brought out an attack and vandalism at Rajshahi Railway Station demanding refunds for their ticket on Tuesday morning.  

The Titumir Express was scheduled to depart from the station towards Chilahati in the morning around 6:20 AM. But the strike cancelled the all schedules. Being agitated by the disruption, the passengers voiced their frustration, particularly pointing out that the railway authorities were still selling tickets online despite the nationwide train services halt. 

Passengers were also unaware of the sudden strike which leads to confusion and dismay. Later, they vandalized chairs and tables in a room for Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) on the station.

The situation was brought under control after the intervention of military personnel, who managed to calm the agitated crowd. Following the Army's involvement, passengers received their refunds and departed.

Train services across Bangladesh have come to a halt due to a strike called by the Running Staff Unity Council of Bangladesh Railways. The same situation has unfolded at Rajshahi Railway Station. The strike began at midnight on Monday due to unresolved issues regarding pension payments and the inclusion of running allowances with basic wages. As a result, train services have been suspended nationwide.
