At least 20 people were injured in a violent clash between two factions of BNP on Tuesday afternoon at South Karimpur area under Feni's Dagonbhuiya upazila, over distribution of winter clothes.
The violence erupted during an event organized by the local BNP leadership, led by upazila convenor Akbar Hossain, for distributing winter essentials. According to witnesses, a group of BNP activists attacked the gathering, sparking retaliatory violence. Both factions have since accused each other of initiating the conflict.
Akbar Hossain alleged at a press conference that the attack was orchestrated by Kazi Saifur Rahman Fotik, described as a notorious gangster and extortionist. Hossain claimed that 20-25 motorcycles were damaged during the attack, and several attendees were injured.
However, Kazi Saifur Rahman Fotik, vice-president of the district Jubo Dal, and Kabir Ahmad Diplu, the upazila Jubo Dal convenor, denied these allegations. They claimed the event was organized under the guise of BNP activities but was actually supported by Awami League cadres. They accused Akbars group of attacking peaceful protesters, resulting in injuries to Jubo Dal leader Mohammad Ripon.
Officer-in-Charge of Dagonbhuiya Police Station, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, stated that the situation has been brought under control. Police, along with joint forces, have been deployed in the area to ensure peace and prevent further violence. Authorities are investigating the incident, though no arrests have been made as of yet.
