143kg of Illegal polythene seized in Noakhali

A mobile court of Noakhali's Begumganj upazila, has fined an illegal polythene factory Tk 2 lakh following a late-night raid. 

Authorities also seized 143 kg of banned polythene and 4,257 kg of raw polythene granules during the operation.  
The raid was conducted at Nipu Print and Packaging in Chowmuhani bazaar on Tuesday midnight. 

Confirming the incident on Wednesday morning, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md. Arifur Rahman stated that the factory had been secretly producing illegal polythene at night to evade law enforcement.  

According to sources from the mobile court, the raid was carried out based on intelligence reports. The factory owner was fined under the Environmental Protection Act and sentenced to one month of imprisonment if the fine is not paid. A total of 4,401 kg of polythene and raw materials were confiscated.  

The operation was led by Begumganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Syed Murad Islam, Noakhali District Environment Department Deputy Director Mihir Lal Sardar, and a police team from Begumganj Police Station.  

UNO Md. Arifur Rahman further mentioned that a previous raid had found the factory closed. However, the owner resumed illegal production at night to avoid detection. With fresh intelligence, the authorities launched another raid, resulting in the hefty fine and seizure.
