Protest erupts in N'ganj over delays of TCB smart card distribution

The residents of Narayanganj, staged protests and formed a human chain on Wednesday afternoon, voicing concerns over the delays and complications surrounding the distribution of TCB�s (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) Smart Family Cards. 

During the demonostrations in front of the District Commissioner�s office, Protesters claimed that these issues were depriving them of essential goods at fair prices.  

Many longtime cardholders expressed their frustration, stating that they were unable to access TCB products in January due to the transition to new Smart Family Cards. They feared that the delay in receiving the new cards would continue to deprive them of essential commodities, increasing their household expenses. Protesters demanded that they be allowed to use their old cards until they receive the new ones.  

Due to the complications in the Smart Family Card system, only 144,000 out of 201,420 registered cardholders in Narayanganj will receive TCB goods this month.  

In response to the protests, the district administration assured the demonstrators that they would discuss the issue with higher authorities.
