30 injured in Savar clash

At least 30 injured in a clash between two groups at Savar in the capital on Wednesday.

The clash took place when a signboard was being installed by North Sea Development Housing Company at Bongram area of the upazila on Wednesday. 

According to the company's manager Imran Hossain Faruk, the president of Savar Upazlila BNP unit, Saifuddin Saif, has been demanding a ransom of Tk 40 lakh from the company. When, the compnay denied to pay the money, the accused along with his cohorts vandalized the site office eralier. 

"Following the vandilism, We have filed complaint to Savar Police Station earlier. On Wednesday, when the workers of the company attempted to install signboards, the accused attacked us and locked into a clash," said the manager.

During the clash, at least 20 workers were injured, added the manager.

On the other hand, the president and injured in clash, Saif, denied the allegations and said that there was rumour that some fugitive Awami League men, who are accused in murder cases filed with Savar and Mirpur Police Station, have gathered in a place of the upazila. Hearing the news, some BNP men were on their way to the place.

"I was on my way to meet and convince them to retreat after informing Savar Police Station. But the attackers intervened and hacked me with sharp weapons in the middle of my way. When, my cohorts tried to save me, they also get critical injuries." 

Claiming that he was attacked in intension of killing, Saif filed a case against the attackers with the police station.

Juwel Mia, officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the incident and added that legal actions will be taken after completing investigation.
