Garment workers in Ctg block roads over unpaid wages

Garment workers in Chattogram staged protests on Monday, blocking several roads in the city to demand their unpaid wages.  

Workers from Anwara Dress Makers Limited and Frank Apparels Limited gathered at the Bayezid Bostami Polytechnic intersection around 12 PM, causing severe traffic congestion in the area.  

According to reports, employees of Anwara Dress Makers Limited have not received their salaries for the past three months. Initially, a small group of workers began the protest in the morning. However, tensions escalated when some workers were paid only half of their December salary at noon, further fueling their frustration. As a result, employees from Frank Apparels Limited also joined the demonstration to demand their outstanding wages.  
Protesting workers claimed that their employers had been struggling to pay wages regularly for the past year, and none of them had received salaries in the last three months. They have vowed to continue their road blockade until their full wages and allowances are paid.  

Law enforcement, including the army, Industrial Area Police, and Khulshi Police Station officers, have been deployed to manage the situation and are negotiating with the protesters. However, no representatives from the factory owners have arrived at the scene yet.  

CMP Deputy Commissioner (North) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed confirmed the protest and assured that authorities are trying to resolve the issue through discussions with the workers.
