Hasnat, Sarjis led students block roads protesting attack in Gazipur

Several leaders and activists of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement along with other students staged a road blockade in Gazipur on Saturday, protesting an attack on their fellow members. 

The demonstration, led by the organization�s convener Hasnat Abdullah and central coordinator Sarjis Alam, took place on Rajbari Road in front of the District Commissioner�s office.  

The protest began at noon when activists gathered at the site, raising their voices against the attack. By 2:30 PM, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam joined the demonstration, further intensifying the movement.  

According to the protesters, the incident occurred on Friday night in Dhirashram area of Gazipur City Corporation. Reports emerged of looting at the residence of former Liberation War Affairs Minister A.K.M. Mozammel Haque. Upon learning about the situation, student activists attempted to intervene, but they were attacked, leaving at least 15 injured.  

In response, various student and organizational leaders organized protest marches in Gazipur�s Rajbari field and near the District Commissioner�s office on Saturday morning. By 2:00 PM, demonstrators occupied the road in front of the office, bringing traffic to a halt.  

Gazipur Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Arifur Rahman stated that police have launched an operation to identify and apprehend the attackers. Meanwhile, the protesters remain firm in their demand for justice.  

The injured students and movement leaders claim that following incidents of vandalism in Dhanmondi, they urged residents in different areas of Gazipur to report any similar disturbances. On Friday night, they received information about a violent attack and looting at the former minister�s residence. A group of 15 students rushed to the scene, where they reportedly witnessed the looting firsthand. When they attempted to intervene, an announcement over loudspeakers drew more people to the location. However, the attackers turned on the students, beating and injuring them severely before the rest of their peers arrived.  

Police were informed, but it took two hours for them to reach the scene and rescue the victims. Later, army personnel also arrived to assess the situation.  

The protesters continue to demand justice, urging authorities to take swift action against those responsible for the attack.
