Trial of 2024 massacre comes first before any other national affairs: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has stated that justice for the crimes of 2024 must come first before addressing other national issues. 

He emphasized that failing to ensure justice would be a betrayal of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.  

Speaking at a workers' conference of the Cox�s Bazar district unit on Saturday (February 8), Dr. Rahman remarked that while Bangladesh gained independence in 1971, true freedom has remained elusive for its people. 

He claimed that successive governments, particularly the Awami League, have subjected citizens to authoritarian rule, hindering the nation�s progress. He asserted that before holding elections under an interim government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina must be held accountable for crimes such as the BDR massacre.  

Dr. Rahman further accused the Awami League of attempting to divert public attention from its "fascist actions and crimes." He alleged that conspiracies were being orchestrated from Delhi and by former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed abroad. However, he affirmed that Jamaat would not be provoked, stating that the student and public movement would persist until justice and equality were established.  

Addressing local concerns, he highlighted allegations of land grabbing in Cox�s Bazar, arguing that genuine politics cannot coexist with criminal activities. He also criticized the lack of a public university in the district, asserting that Jamaat is committed to ensuring development in marginalized regions.  

The conference, presided over by Cox�s Bazar district Jamaat Ameer Principal Nur Ahmad Anwari, featured speeches from Assistant Secretaries A.H.M. Hamidur Rahman Azad and Mohammad Shahjahan, Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Religious Trustee Parimal Kanti, District Secretary Zahidul Islam, and Publicity Secretary Al Amin.  

Several other central and local Jamaat leaders were also in attendance, including Central Executive Council member Principal Ahsan Ullah, Chattogram Metropolitan Ameer Shahjahan Chowdhury, former District Ameer Mostafizur Rahman, and former Cox�s Bazar Mayor Sarwar Kamal.
