Female AL leader held for making Tiktoks in front of police station

A female Awami League (AL) leader has been arrested in Natore's Baraigram upazila, just hours after a TikTok video of her dancing in front of the police station went viral on social media. 

She was detained early Tuesday morning from her home and later presented in court in the afternoon.  

The arrested woman has been identified as Sheuli Begum, 40, who serves as the Women’s Affairs Secretary of Natore District Sramik League and Vice President of ward no. 4 AL unit in Baraigram. Originally from Chartebaria village in Natore Sadar upazila, she currently resides in the Lakshmipur neighborhood of Baraigram municipality with her husband, Mamunur Rashid.  

According to Baraigram Police Station sources, Sheuli Begum was arrested from her home in the early hours of the day. Later, she was shown as a suspect in a case related to vandalism and an explosion at the BNP office in Mokhura union of the upazila.

Although she was brought to the Baraigram Magistrate’s Court in the afternoon, she had not been presented before the judge until 3 PM. No lawyer had applied for her bail by that time.  

The TikTok video, which surfaced on Monday afternoon, shows Shiuli Begum dancing to the song "Police Chorer Preme Poreche" (The Police Have Fallen in Love with a Thief) in front of the Baraigram police station’s main gate. The 17-second video quickly went viral on social media.  

Baraigram Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Sirajul Islam stated that the video was recorded without the police’s knowledge. He confirmed that Sheuli Begum was arrested in connection with an explosives case and was sent to court accordingly.
