2 killed in Savar fire extinguisher blast

Two workers were killed in an explosion involving a fire extinguisher at a battery manufacturing factory in Savar.  

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening inside the Rahimafrooz factory, located in Khagan area of Birulia union.  

The deceased were identified as Oliur Rahman, 50, son of Azgar Ali from Gopinathpur village in Raipura, Narsingdi, and Fayez Uddin, 45, son of Abdul Aziz from Paschim Char Khali village in Bhola Sadar. Both were employed at the factory on a daily wage basis.  

According to Fayez Uddin’s brother, Monir Hossain, the factory had recently procured new fire extinguishers. The explosion took place while workers were unloading them from a pickup truck. Fayez and Oliur sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.  

Their bodies were taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar before being sent to the morgue at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy.
