Tourism ban in Sajek lifted a day after devastating fire

The Rangamati district administration has lifted the temporary restriction on tourism in Sajek Valley, just a day after a massive fire ravaged nearly 100 resorts, restaurants, and houses in the popular tourist destination in Baghaichhari upazila.  

Shirin Akter, Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), confirmed that the restriction, which was imposed for safety concerns following the fire, was withdrawn on Tuesday afternoon.  

Earlier, on Monday, the local administration had urged tourists to avoid visiting the area to ensure their safety after the devastating blaze.  

Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Habib Ullah stated that approximately 90 to 95 resorts, shops, cottages, and homes were reduced to ashes when the fire broke out around 1:00 am on Monday.  

To determine the cause of the fire, the administration has formed an investigation committee, which has been directed to submit its findings within seven working days.
