Robbers loot 3 school buses during educational tour in Tangail

The incident occurred around 4:30 AM in the Lakkhaner Badha area, marking the third robbery on this road within the past ten days.  

The buses, belonged to Sowaitpur High School of Mymensingh's Fulbaria upazila, was heading towards Green Valley Park in Natore for an educational tour when the attack took place. 

The school’s headmaster, Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, who was in the first bus, reported that the road was mostly empty, allowing the buses to travel at high speed. Suddenly, they noticed tree logs blocking the road, which made him suspect a robbery attempt. He immediately alerted the passengers and instructed them to shut the bus windows and doors. Within moments, 10-12 armed robbers started attacking the buses, smashing windows and looting valuables.  

Despite a 999 emergency call to the police, the robbers managed to loot three of the four buses before law enforcement arrived, he said.

They took Tk 1.5 lakh in cash, 1.5 tolas of gold jewelry, and 10 smartphones from passengers and left several individuals injured. 

Among the injured, Robin, who was in the second bus filled with female students, attempted to protect them, which led to him being struck with the blunt side of a machete. 

Local authorities confirmed that similar robberies have repeatedly occurred in Lakkhaner Badha area. On February 19, robbers used the same method of placing tree logs on the road to stop vehicles, looting motorbikes and trucks transporting perishable goods. 

Ghatail Police Station officer-in-charge Rakibul Islam, stated that during the latest incident, seven mobile phones and Tk 2,700 were stolen. He visited the site and discussed the security situation with local residents, but no official complaint has been filed.
