Democracy still under threat despite fall of fascism: Tarique

“Although dictatorship has been overthrown, there are continued attempts to weaken the interim government,” he said while addressing the biennial conference of Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad at JM Sen Hall in Chattogram on Friday.  

Tarique stressed that true democracy can only thrive under a government elected by the people, adding that political exploitation of the Sanatani community over the past 17 years has now come to light. He described this realization as a significant step toward ensuring equal rights for all citizens.  

He reassured the audience that the BNP is committed to building a safer and more inclusive Bangladesh for all communities.  

The event was attended by BNP leaders, including Standing Council Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Chattogram Divisional Organising Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, and Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, along with monks and nuns from various temples and monasteries.
