Rohingya elderly killed, 2 injured in stampede at iftar fathering

A tragic stampede at an iftar gathering in Cox's Bazar claimed the life of an elderly Rohingya man and left two others injured on Friday. 

The event was attended by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.  

The incident occurred around 2:30 PM at the helipad area of Camp 20 in the Rohingya refugee camp. Though styled as an iftar, people had been arriving at the location throughout the day.  

The deceased, Neyamat Ullah, son of the late Sabi Mia from Camp 4, succumbed to his injuries, while Asmat Ullah, son of Asad Ullah, and Kalim Ullah, son of Basir Ahmed, were injured. Asmat Ullah was taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.  

Ukhiya Police Station officer-in-charge Muhammad Arif Hossain stated, "Three people fell from a hillside while attending the gathering. Neyamat Ullah was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital."  

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
