2 workers die as lift snaps at Sitakunda

Two workers died after a lift cable snapped inside an iron rod manufacturing factory at Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram on Sunday.

The tragic accident took place at GPH Ispat factory in the area.

The victims were identified as Md Rifat, 25, son of Shamsul Haque from Mirsarai upazila, and Md Mostafa, 24, son of Rokonuzzaman from the Bashbaria area.

According to Sitakunda Police Station officer-in-charge, Mojibur Rahman, the incident occurred in the afternoon at the factory situated in the Sultana Mandir area under Kumira union. Both workers sustained critical injuries when the lift cable gave way.

They were immediately taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where Mostafa was pronounced dead upon arrival by attending physicians. Rifat was admitted to the hospital’s neurosurgery ward, where he later succumbed to his injuries around 2 PM while undergoing treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
