The National Citizen Party (NCP) started its July march programme by visiting the grave of Abu Sayed, the first martyr of the July Uprising, in Rangpur.
NCP leaders and activists paid homage at martyr Abu Sayed grave in Rangpur's Pirgonj at 10:30AM on Tuesday. Later, they met the family members of Abu Sayed.
Nahid Islam, convener of NCP, said, "One year ago on July 1, we began a democratic movement under the banner of an anti-discrimination student movement, joined by thousands of students and people, including Abu Sayed. On July 16, following Abu Sayed's death, the movement transformed into a mass uprising that ultimately led to the fall of the autocratic government."
NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, chief organisers Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, along with leaders and activists from various districts were also present.
The NCP announced the month-long programme titled 'July March to Build the Nation' which will run from 1 to July 30.
Nahid added, if anyone tries to obstruct the July declaration, they are ready to urge students and the public back to the streets if necessary.
