Triple murder in Muradnagar: 6 more held

Six more suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of three members of a same family in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district. 

The arrests were made by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Dhaka’s Banasree area on Saturday, bringing the total number of detainees in the case to eight.

RAB-11’s CPC-2 Cumilla Company Commander Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the arrests, saying they were detained based on confidential intelligence. Details will be shared at a press briefing scheduled for 5:30 pm at the RAB media center. The detainees will later be handed over to Bangra Bazar Police Station.

Earlier in the day, two other suspects — Md Sabir Ahmed, 48, and Md Najimuddin Babul, 56 — were arrested during a joint operation in the Akbapur area of Muradnagar.

The killings took place around 9 am on Thursday in Koroi Bari village under Bangra Bazar police station. According to police, a dispute over drug trading and a stolen mobile phone led to the deadly assault. The victims were identified as Rokhsana Begum Ruby, 55, wife of Khalilur Rahman; their son Russel Mia, 35; and daughter Taspia Akhter Jonaki, 29. Another daughter, Ruma Akhter, 28, was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment in Dhaka.

On Friday night, Ruby’s daughter Rikta Begum filed a case with Bangra Bazar police, naming local union council chairman Shimul Billal among 38 accused, along with 20-25 unnamed individuals.
