Asaduzzaman Noor shown arrested in four Nilphamari cases

Former minister and ex-MP of Nilphamari-2 constituency, Asaduzzaman Noor, has been shown arrested in four separate cases filed in Nilphamari, including two over murder.

He was virtually produced before Nilphamari Judicial Magistrate Court from Kashimpur Central Jail on Tuesday at around 3:00 PM. 

Following a petition by Nilphamari Sadar police, the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate-2, Md. Mosharraf Hossain, ordered his formal arrest in the cases.

The four cases, filed after the fall of Awami League government in a mass uprising in August 2024, include the murders of BNP leader Golam Rabbani and Jamaat activist Abu Bakkar Siddique at Lakshmichap union of Nilphamari Sadar upazila. Two other cases involve charges of violence, vandalism and use of explosives during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Before being shown arrested in these cases, Noor had already been in custody at Kashimpur Jail. He was arrested from his residence on Bailey Road in Dhaka, on 15 September 2024 in connection with the murder of a student named Siam in Mirpur.

Later, on 29 September, he was also shown arrested in the murder case of another student named Mamun.

According to Nilphamari police, Noor is the prime accused in all four cases, which were filed by different plaintiffs and later recorded on court orders.

Nilphamari court police inspector Jinnat Ali confirmed that four investigating officers from Nilphamari Sadar Police Station had requested the court to show Noor arrested in the cases. 

Nilphamari Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) M R Sayeed also confirmed the arrests were formalized virtually from Kashimpur prison.
