Address rising cybercrime concerns

Dear Sir,

Cybercrime has become a growing concern nowadays. With the rapid expansion of internet access, online banking, and e-commerce, the city has seen a sharp rise in digital threats such as identity theft, online fraud, hacking, and cyberbullying. Every day, numerous individuals fall victim to scams involving fake job offers, phishing emails, or unauthorized transactions. Small businesses also suffer from ransomware attacks and data breaches, damaging their reputation and finances.

Despite the efforts of law enforcement agencies, the fast-evolving nature of cybercrime makes it difficult to track down criminals, especially when they operate anonymously or from abroad. Although the Cyber Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has increased its vigilance, there is still a need for more public awareness and stricter digital security measures.

Schools, colleges, and workplaces should introduce basic cybersecurity education to help citizens recognize and avoid online dangers. At the same time, social media platforms and digital services must collaborate more closely with local authorities to prevent misuse. Stronger laws, advanced training for officers, and public awareness campaigns are essential to combat this invisible yet harmful threat.
