Protect Dhaka's water bodies

Published : Monday, 29 December, 2025 at 12:00 AM  Count : 914
Dear Sir,

With the expansion of Dhaka-centered urbanization, the rate of environmental destruction has increased alarmingly. Once, natural canals, wetlands, and ponds spread across different parts of Dhaka played a vital role in maintaining the balance of urban life.

Today, however, most of these water bodies have turned into dumping grounds for waste and garbage. Due to unplanned urbanization, illegal encroachment, and the failure of waste management systems, natural canals are now on the verge of extinction. This trend of destroying water bodies in the name of urban development is not only harming the environment but also pushing future urban life into greater risk.

If unplanned urbanization is not stopped immediately and effective waste management is not established, the remaining ponds and canals will also turn into dumping grounds, leading to severe environmental pollution and a serious decline in the quality of life for city residents.
