Avoid firecrackers on 31st night

Published : Sunday, 28 December, 2025 at 12:00 AM  Count : 1018
Dear Sir,

On the occasion of the English New Year, bursting firecrackers and releasing sky lanterns have become common practices across the country, from villages to cities. As Thirty-First Night approaches each year, excitement among people of all ages reaches its peak. However, it is important to reflect on whether these celebrations justify the serious risks they pose.

Firecrackers cause significant harm beyond air pollution. The loud noise can trigger heart problems, particularly among children and the elderly, and causes immense suffering for hospitalized patients. Releasing sky lanterns further increases the risk of fire hazards, especially in densely populated cities like Dhaka.

I urge the authorities to ensure strict monitoring to prevent the use of firecrackers on Thirty-First Night.
