BSF firing at Feni border: Death toll rises to 2

The death toll from Indian Border Security Force (BSF) firing along the Parshuram border in Feni district has risen to two, after one of the injured victims succumbed to his wounds.

The latest victim, Md Liton, 32, son of Gachhi Mia of Bashpaduya village in Parshuram upazila, died at an Indian hospital after being found injured inside Indian territory. 

Earlier, 21-year-old Millat Hossain, son of Yusuf Miah from the same village, died while being taken to the hospital.

Another Bangladeshi, Md Afsar, 31, son of Ayer Ahmed, also from Bashpaduya, sustained bullet injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

According to locals and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the three men allegedly crossed the border near the Gathuma Border Outpost (BOP) around 1:00 AM on Friday when BSF troops opened fire. Millat and Afsar were initially rescued and taken to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex before being shifted to Feni General Hospital, where Millat died en route.

BGB-4 Feni Battalion Commandant Col Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain confirmed Liton was later found critically injured inside Indian territory and was taken to a local hospital, where he passed away. Efforts are currently underway to repatriate his body.

Describing the incident as "unacceptable under any circumstances," Col Mosharraf said a formal protest note would be sent to Indian authorities. 

He added that BGB is investigating why the three individuals crossed the international border at that hour.

Millat’s body has been kept at Feni General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
