
At least 18 people have been arrested following a violent attack on police during a late-night operation to detain Awami League leaders and activists at Bandar area of Chattogram city.
The incident occurred around 2 AM on Monday near Saltgola Crossing, Ishan Mistry Hat.
Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeed Rana of Bandar Police Station was critically injured in the attack.
He was initially taken to Chittagong Maa-O-Shishu Hospital and later transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to police and local sources, members of Awami League and its affiliated organizations organized a sudden procession at Saltgola area.
Upon receiving the information, police launched a drive to arrest those involved. During the operation, SI Abu Sayeed was reportedly attacked and beaten indiscriminately by the group.
A joint drive by police and army personnel was carried out after the incident, resulting in the arrest of 18 suspects.
Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aftab Uddin confirmed the attack and arrests, stating that legal action is underway and further investigations are ongoing.
