The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) has issued a circular to recruit 2,169 head teachers in government primary schools across the country.

The circular, published on Sunday, comes as part of efforts to fill vacancies in the post, which has recently been classified as a second-class government service position.

Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) Director General Abu Noor Md Shamsuzzaman told the media, "I've heard that BPSC has approved the circular, although we haven't received the official copy yet."

According to the DPE, about 32,000 head teacher positions remain vacant nationwide. As per recruitment rules, 20 per cent of the posts can be filled through direct recruitment, while the remaining 80 per cent must be filled through promotions.

Under the circular, candidates with teacher training qualifications will be recruited under the 11th grade of the National Pay Scale, 2015, while those without training will be placed under the 12th grade.

Officials said the decision to route recruitment through the BPSC was taken in line with demands from primary school head teachers, ensuring a standardised and transparent process.
