The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a raid to investigate allegations of evading Tk 40 crore in municipal tax by the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).

The ACC team conducted the raid at the CCC office on Thursday afternoon.

According to sources, out of the Tk 26 crore 38 lakh against the holding tax of Ishaq Brothers in the annual assessment of municipal tax for the fiscal year 2017-2018, Tk 20 crore was shown less when the appeal was presented to the Review Board.

In addition, Tk 5 crore 67 lakh was shown in the Appeal Review Board for the municipal tax of Tk 25 crore 67 lakh at the Incontend Depot.

ACC Assistant Director Sayed Alam told journalists that during the initial investigation, we found that the documents had been erased. It is initially believed that the owner of the organisation is also involved.

Since they are beneficiaries, the opinion of signature experts will be taken. The bank account will be investigated in a detailed investigation.

CCC Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin said, based on the last assessment of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) in 2017-2018, irregularities were reported in two container depots.

Instead of 26 crores, 6 crores were shown. Besides, instead of 25 crores, 5 crores were shown.

One TO and two DTOs were directly involved in this incident. The office's accounting assistants were also aware of the matter. Departmental action has been taken by suspending two of them.

He also said that they have made the accounting assistants OSD. They have also been given a show cause notice within 10 days.

Further action will be taken after they respond to the notice. One has retired. We have permanently suspended the post-retirement benefits. The matter was to determine the loss.
