A moving passenger bus was severely damaged after it suddenly caught fire in Gazipur on Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 8 PM in the Hurricane area under Gacha Police Station on the Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway.
Gazipur Chourasta Modern Fire Service Senior Station Officer Iqbal Hasan said that two fire service units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes. No casualties were reported, but nearly 80 percent of the bus was burned.
Witness Babul Hossain said he and several others were standing nearby when they saw flames erupt from the engine.
About 10 passengers were inside the bus, but all managed to get out quickly. The driver and helper could not be located after the incident.
Gacha Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Aminul Islam said the bus was traveling from Gazipur toward Dhaka when a mechanical fault triggered the fire, causing extensive damage.
